You’ll want to make sure you get to Downtown Winchester Friday at 5 p.m. That’s when the city’s Fire Department will arrive with Santa Claus to usher in not just the season, but two days of family fun, entertainment and good times.
First thing after Santa’s arrival, people will be asked to judge the holiday-themed shop windows on display all around the square. The winners will be announced later in the evening.
There will be an “elf on the shelf” scavenger hunt sponsored by downtown merchants and full of discounts and promotions while the Riva Lake Baptist church puts on a live nativity scene.
Enjoy some s’mores prepared by the Franklin United Methodist Women’s ministry and get ready to enjoy songs and music from several different groups.
You can continue the fun Saturday morning and work up an appetite at the Reindeer Run 5K hosted by the North Cross Country/Track Team then fill up with a free, yes free, pancake breakfast sponsored by the AM Rotary.
Enter to win a free bike and other prizes and enjoy the arrival of Santa at 10 a.m. Then take the kids over to the Kiwanis Club Gingerbread house for a free picture with the Jolly Old Elf.
There will be a free lunch of chili and hot dogs supplied by Winchester First Baptist church and share the spirit of giving this season by bringing an unwrapped new toy or game to help “Fill the Firetruck.”
There will be lots more to do with kids and adults getting some free craft lessons and entertainment by dance groups and local bands.
So make some plans to spend a little time in Downtown Winchester on the historic square to get you and your family in the Christmas Spirit.
